Smart Border Initiative
An energy system for European neighbours
This unique flagship project focuses on European neighbouring regions to jointly build up integrated local energy systems in order to tackle challenges and opportunities of the energy transition on a cross-border level.
The objective of the Smart Border Initiative (SBI) is to implement the world’s first cross-border smart grid at distribution network level between Saarland and Grand Est Region in order to make a joint, cross-border energy optimisation possible between Germany and France.
